About this tune

Antonín Dvořák composed his Ninth Symphony, From the New World, in 1893. The slow second movement introduces a singing English-horn solo after a quiet orchestral opening.

The Largo theme moves from a low, reflective opening to a higher answer and a final rising phrase. This twelve-bar excerpt presents that opening solo as a self-contained melody.
