About this tune

Brian Boru’s March is named for the Irish king Brian Boru. The melody appears in nineteenth-century collections; its title does not establish that it was played in his lifetime.

Versions circulate with different numbers of parts. Here a low refrain leads into a rising second part and an upper-octave third part, all carried by two broad pulses per bar.
